Explore the oldest standing historical home in Texas is open to the public for the first time in almost 200 years. Step back in time and experience the Texan's fight for independence, the Republic of Texas and the State of Texas. The 1831 Log Cabin was built by Ira and Prudence Nash on their original Spanish Land Grant . Ira Nash was killed in an Indian Raid in Gonzales in 1832. His widow Prudence then married George Kimble who was the Commander of the Gonzales Ranging Company and the Immortal 32 which were the only men that answered Colonial Travis' call for help at the Alamo. George was best friends with Sam Houston, his Muster Number into the Texas Army was #000001. When Sam Houston heard of George's death at the Alamo (1836), after the victory at San Jacinto, he came to the Log Cabin and gave Prudence a $20 Gold Piece in honor of her husband and his friend. The Gonzales Ranging Company became the Texas Rangers. In 1847 Prudence married Claiborne West. a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. Prudence lived in the log cabin until her death in 1861. The log cabin was vacant during the Civil War and became a part of the El Capote Ranch in 1897. The property was owned by El Capote Ranch-Denman Heirs until it was purchased to become the Immortal 32 Living History Museum and Olde Town Texas Park in 2019.
